One of the appreciation forms for a quality food is to bring the kitchen marvels behind the plate served. Understanding this matter, Indonesian Chef Association (ICA) held Chef Expo 2018 at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Central Jakarta to honor a number of chefs in any levels to present their talents. From junior chefs, professional ones to culinary artists across the archipelago joined this prestigious event on September 26-28, 2018. The objective of Chef Expo itself revolves around preserving Indonesian cuisine and creating entrepreneurial chefs in the industry. The event surely motivates all participants to have a big dream in the sense of culinary business. It is expected that all chefs will not only be the figure who follows the recipes, cooks and serves but to be someone beyond that: to express their creativity and enhance their entrepreneurship within themselves.
A series of activities was arranged by the organizer, from live cooking demo, culinary exhibition to food and vegetable carving and cooking competition. It was later known that the event became one of the most significant culinary event as it was considered as the biggest and the most thoroughgoing culinary event of all where renowned figures from the industry took parts. From Yongki Gunawan, Vindy Lee, Brian Wicaksono, Muto to the senior one, Sisca Soewitomo played important role in the event.
Interestingly, the momentum of the three-day event lied upon the Black Box Competition where five team of professional chefs from Jakarta and Bali representing their restaurants competed each other and shared to the public of their best recipes of all. Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, and Blue Team were the names of the five groups. What made it more intriguing was that the participants of this competition did not know what the ingredients were to use on the recipes. They had to cook all ingredients in the Black Box to be served as an appetizer, main course and dessert. For two hours sharp exceptional meals were expected to be presented on the table.
